Bill Barber's first position in the movie business was with Malco Theatres in Memphis, Tennessee as assistant manager. He screened films, privately, for one of his Humes High School classmates, Elvis Presley. Next he became a film booker and salesman for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and worked on many major motion pictures in his early career including, Ben Hur, Hercules and Jailhouse Rock. Later for United Artists Theatres he started as Director of Advertising and Publicity and quickly moved to Vice President and General Manager of Theatre Operations, a responsibility that included special ad campaigns, star tours and several world premieres. During his fifteen years at United Artists he was honored as "Showman of the Year" by the Theatre Owners of America.

One of his first major campaigns was for the mega hit, Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte for 20th Century Fox. He managed and directed a series of star tours with, Jimmy Stewart, Natalie Wood, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Omar Shariff, Charleston Heston, Shirley MacLaine, Doug McClure, Frankie Avalon, Annette, Fabian, Don Rickles, Maureen O’Hara, Betty Davis, Chill Wills, Sophia Loren, Stella Stevens, Ann Margaret, Raquel Welch, Don Knotts, Marty Robbins, Diane Ladd and many others.

Mr. Barber coordinated Premiere Releases for, Easy Rider, War Wagon, Stagecoach, Rare Breed, Planet of the Apes, Bandolero, Shenandoah, Your Cheatin Heart, and many, many more. He also worked closely with Arkoff and Nicholson of AIP on Premieres for many of their Beach Pictures and with World Wide Pictures during their four-wall release of The Hiding Place.
